Naomi Kazzi’s Teaching Philosophy
I believe that good teachers know how to teach content well, but great teachers aim to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of their students. They help students build their unique success toolkit, jam-packed with essential skills like a growth mindset, a good dose of grit, and a sense of empathy.
As an educator, I aim to focus on the holistic needs of each student in my care. Teachers are leaders; the best leaders tap into potential and help others feel confident, inspired, and empowered.
Education should evolve as society changes. Students can not solely rely on content acquisition to be successful. They need life skills to flourish both in and beyond the classroom.
Students should feel safe to make mistakes when learning, and efforts should be celebrated. By creating engaging lessons that are relevant, accessible, and meaningful, teachers can focus on the diverse needs of students.
Teaching is a vocation - it’s for those who genuinely care about students and love the craft of teaching. I am not a perfect teacher, and there is no perfect student. I accept that, but I recognize that we are all on a journey to become better than who we were yesterday, and that’s the beauty of learning - there is no final destination, just more skills, and lessons to unlock.
I strive to try innovative classroom practices, and acknowledge that mistakes are part of the process, but keep trying to be the best teacher I can be regardless - and the only way to do that is to keep learning.
I am indebted to my teachers. They are part of why I stand in front of a class today. I thank them for igniting my spark to teach. I hope I can ignite that same spark in others.
